Amaravati: Monastery coronavirus information (updated 19th July 2021)

Although the nationwide lockdown has ended and vaccines have reduced the risk of severe illness, our close-knit, partially-vaccinated community remains vulnerable to an outbreak if a resident becomes infected. In addition, current UK policy would require us to lock down internally with even just one or two cases. Since coronavirus levels are still increasing, we are following a cautious policy of allowing a limited number of pre-booked outdoor visitors until the long-term outlook becomes clearer. We anticipate an end to this situation when the effects of vaccination become widespread, and the risk of a third wave has abated, hopefully in the later part of this summer or in autumn.

The back gate will remain open for deliveries. The Saturday meditation workshop continues online. Paritta chanting, Refuges, and Precepts are live-streamed on Sundays beginning at 11:15am. See our calendar for details of these and other online events.

The COVID pandemic is a test of everyone’s patience. May we all use these challenging times as an opportunity to grow in wisdom and compassion.

Offering Dāna and making deliveries

  • There is a table for deliveries and dāna by the back gate. You are welcome to leave your offerings there, together with any dedications to be read out at the meal blessing.
  • During this time, it is more helpful to bring groceries and pre-packaged goods instead of cooked food.
  • Our latest Dana list
  • The back gate is usually opened at 6.30 am and locked around 5 pm.

See the previous post where from Ajahn Amaro provide some information about future residential retreats. For details of regular online teachings available at this time, please see the Events Calendar on our website

We will continue to update the community as things evolve and wish to express our gratitude for your continued support and kind observance. With all blessings for your continued health and well-being.
