Amaravati will be hosting the Visākha festival (Vesak) on Sunday, 11th of May 2025. This traditional celebration honours three significant events in the Buddha’s life: his birth, awakening, and parinibbāna (final passing away).
Typically, when the actual moon day falls during the week, Amaravati holds an evening celebration on the day itself and a festival day on the nearest Sunday. This year, since the moon day falls on a Sunday, we will host both celebrations on the same day.
Festival (morning/afternoon – Temple/outdoors)
- 10:30 Paritta chanting
- 11:00 Rice pindapat (alms-round)
- 13:30 Three Refuges and Five Precepts
Dhamma reflection offered by Luang Por Pasanno (the event will be broadcast in the sala too, but no livestream will be available)
If you wish to bring cooked food, please make your way to the cloister. Other offerings – uncooked food, flowers, other requisites… – should be brought to the gazebo set up near the kitchen’s side entrance.
Please be aware that the back gate will be shut, and all attendees need to enter the Amaravati site through the main gate. We ask that you kindly follow the instructions given by our team of parking volunteers.
Evening celebration (Temple/outdoors)
- 19:30 Chanting (Dhammacakkapavattana Sutta)
Sitting meditation
Circumambulation of the stupa in the field
Please note that Ajahn Amaro is currently on a year-long sabbatical and will not be attending this event. Luang Por Sumedho will also not be in attendance.
All are welcome to attend any part, or all of, this Visākha puja day. It is not necessary to book beforehand.
May all beings be at ease,
The resident community at Amaravati
