Visākha festival and puja (Vesak 2026)

Medhavi BhikkhuNews

Amaravati will be hosting the Visākha festival (Vesak) on Sunday, 31st of May 2026. This traditional celebration honours three significant events in the Buddha’s life: his birth, awakening, and parinibbāna (final passing away).

Typically, when the actual moon day falls during the week, Amaravati holds an evening celebration on the day itself and a festival day on the nearest Sunday. This year, since the full moon falls on a Sunday, we will host both celebrations on the same day.

Festival (morning/afternoon – Temple/outdoors)

  • 10:30 Paritta chanting
  • 11:00 Rice pindapat (alms-round)
  • 13:30 Three Refuges and Five Precepts
Dhamma reflection offered by Luang Por Amaro (the event will be broadcast in the sala too, but no livestream will be available)

If you are bringing cooked food or other offerings – uncooked food, flowers, other requisites – please enter the monastery through the second gate. All offerings can be dropped off at the gazebo set up near the kitchen’s side entrance before driving your vehicle to the back field for parking. Volunteers will be on hand to direct you. Please use our recycle bins and bring your own takeaway containers and cutlery to the festival to help us reduce landfill

Evening celebration (Temple/outdoors)

  • 19:30 Chanting (Dhammacakkapavattana Sutta)
    Sitting meditation
    Candle-lit circumambulation

All are welcome to attend any part, or all of, this Visākha puja day. It is not necessary to book beforehand.

May all beings be at ease,
