We are glad to announce that the new sala, and its adjoining buildings, are reaching the final stages of construction. These new facilities will be officially handed over to the sangha on the 28th of November1.
This means that the new sala will not be available as an eating area on Kathina day, a possibility that we had mentioned in our recent Kathina announcement.
However, we will be offering viewings, allowing visitors to enter the building and see the main hall, as well as the monks’ eating area. Other parts of the building, such as the kitchen and auxiliary rooms, will not be accessible.
Viewings will be held from 9:30am to 4:30pm, starting from the sala’s main entrance, next to the cloister. Please follow the guidance of the building site managers, who will usher you in when it is your turn. You are welcome to take photos and videos, but we kindly ask that no food or drinks be brought inside.
We hope to hold a small-scale opening ceremony, open to all, on Sunday, the 29th of December.
Kathina parking
This year, as in previous years, the main field will be available for visitor parking. However, please note that the route has changed. Volunteers in yellow vests will guide you upon arrival, so we kindly ask that you follow their instructions for parking.
May all beings be at ease,
The resident community at Amaravati
- In an earlier version of this post, sent by email, we mistakenly indicated that the new buildings would be handed over on the 25th of November. ↩︎
